With signs of mother nature finally cooperating, and giving New Jersey some proper spring weather, I’m prepping my wardrobe with essential items that give me options… and don’t break the bank either. When shopping for spring wardrobe must-haves, I keep in mind versatility in terms of allowing me to pair items together in multiple ways. Mix and match is the name of the game when it comes to my personal spring fashion aesthetic, and you can do the same.
If you are just starting to build your wardrobe, here are my three top picks for getting longevity out of your spring wardrobe:
Basic tees: T-shirts are extremely versatile, and contrary to the “thrown together” look people might envision when wearing them, a quality tee will allow you to play with dressy and casual looks throughout the seasons. Since the weather in New Jersey during spring tends to be a bit erratic, I wear my tee shirts under cardigans and blazers on chilly days, but then, style them with pants, skirts and even under dresses on warm days.
Floral print anything: Florals prints give your look an instant chic factor that is soft, playful and feminine. From large scale blossoms, to ditzy floral prints, flower patterned skirts and tops can be paired with solid basics (Remember those basic tees I told you to buy?). Plus, the print is very transitional.
Lace-up ghillie flats or sandals: A huge trend this year is lace-up shoes. The corset-inspired style is my latest obsession as it can take a simple outfit and make it look uber polished instantly. If you’re not a fan of wearing heels, invest in ghillie flats and rock em’ with jeans, leggings, dresses and skirts. But, if you need the extra height, a lace-up gladiator sandal is the way to go.
