Susan Sarandon‘s younger brother Terry Tomalin died at the age of 55 on Thursday. According to the Tampa Bay Times, where he worked as the paper’s outdoors editor, Terry suffered a heart attack while taking a lifeguarding test with his 14-year-old son Kai Tomalin at a pool in St. Petersburg, Florida. He reportedly collapsed and failed to regain consciousness.
“Thank you to everyone who reached out with love at the passing of my brother Terry Tomalin,” Sarandon wrote on Facebook Friday afternoon, including a link to his obituary. “I will pass on your prayers to his wife and family. This will give you a small idea of who he was.”
Susan, 69, Terry and their seven siblings were raised in Edison. Terry was known for his love of outdoor activities and all things nature. The About Ray star’s 31-year-old daughter, Eva Amurri Martino, also posted a heartfelt message to her Instagram, reflecting on what a great man he was.
Today Heaven gained the most caring, adventurous, and fun-loving Angel around. My Uncle, Terry Tomalin, passed away this afternoon- very suddenly from a heart attack. He was an avid Outdoorsman, prolific writer, great friend, pillar of the community, and most importantly a dedicated husband and father who had such a fierce love for his family. He leaves behind an incredible wife and two amazing children who can do with all the prayers, love and light you might send their way. Our whole family mourns this heartbreaking loss today, and we are so grateful for the time we had with him and the positivity and dedication he taught us while here.
Terry is survived by his wife, St. Petersburg deputy mayor Kanika Tomalin, and their children Kai and 12-year-old daughter Nia Tomalin.
