You’re surely familiar that New Jersey specialty composed of a delicious mix of egg, cheese and meat piled onto a mouthwatering sandwich, but what do you call it: Taylor ham or pork roll? This isn’t a question to be taken lightly, because now the New Jersey state government is poised to actually make one of these the official winning title for our breakfast of choice.
State Assemblyman Tim Eustace (D-Bergen) cares so passionately about this issue that in April, he introduced two bills to determine the matter once and for all. One bill designates pork roll as the official New Jersey State Sandwich, and the other does the same for Taylor ham. Who knew naming foods was such a serious matter?
If you’re reading this and thinking, I don’t care what they’re called, I just want to put one in my mouth, you’re in luck: the regional specialty is offered throughout the Garden State.
