Director Kevin Smith is still madly in love with his wife Jennifer Schwalbach and wants the world to know! The couple married in 1999 and have one daughter, teen actress Harley Quinn Smith, who will star in Kevin’s July movie Yoga Hosers alongside Lily-Rose Depp. To celebrate his 1000th Instagram post, he praised Jen as “the love of my life,” looking every bit as smitten as he did in the early days.
For my 1000th #Instagram post, I honor she who legitimized me: the love of my life, #JenSchwalbach. What was supposed to be nothing more than an hour long interview for @usatoday has lasted nearly twenty years now. But in truth, I've really just been working her all this time so that she'll write a glowing profile piece. The short con is for suckers who don't see all the angles; I play the looooooong con. #KevinSmith
In an essay titled “How My Wife is My Wayne Gretzy” that Kevin wrote for Nerve in 2012, he observed, “In the time since I met Jennifer Schwalbach, I made some dippy flicks a few people liked. In the same time, however, Jennifer did so much more: she built a life with a family she’s personally responsible for bringing together. She built a home for the people she loves most dearly in this world, where they can feel safe, dream their dreams, and be productive. And most important, Jen built and maintains an entire human being.”
Smith, who was born in Red Bank, has celebrated their recent anniversaries by sharing other touching Instagram posts. Here’s more photos of Kevin and Jen over the years along with a special gift that shows they share a similarly wacky sense of humor that’s surely helped sustain their marriage.
Happy Birthday, #jenniferschwalbach! You're the Woman of my dreams, the Mother of my child, and the hero of my story! Thank you for always being a patient partner, a passionate lover and a best friend. But in honor of your 45th, I have a terrible confession to make: last night before I went to sleep, I fucked a 44 year old who looked a lot like you… (Photo by @allanamato.) #happybirthday #jenschwalbach #KevinSmith #wifeforlife #marriage
18 years ago, I met the woman who'd make me a family. While running errands with the wife yesterday, Jen and I realized that Feb 19th was the day we first met nearly two decades back, when Jennifer interviewed me for @usatoday at the old Bel Age Hotel (off #sunsetblvd in #losangeles). Since then, the Bel Age closed and @thelondonweho took over the property. So the wife and I decided to mark the suddenly-remembered anniversary of our first laying eyes on one another to grab an impromptu lunch at the hotel restaurant yesterday afternoon. When we met at this location 18 years ago, it was all very chaste and professional; but there we were, in the same exact geographical place we met at the same exact time, 18 years after the fact. You could practically feel the power of the planet's Ley lines in the hotel lobby. And even though our house is only 5 minutes away, I said "Let's turn these Ley lines into Lay lines!" So we got a room and did what we didn't get to do that day we met for the newspaper interview at this same location years ago: we fucked each other's brains out! Happy Anniversary of the Day We Met, Jenny! You changed my life 18 years ago when I opened my hotel door and saw the most beautiful woman I'd ever met standing there, tape recorder in hand. Thank you for nearly 2 decades of love and laughs and family and friendship… and lots of clit/taint/brown-area action! Jenny Schwalbach and I got hitched 17 years ago today. We were mixing #Dogma at #Skywalker Ranch in 1999 while Jen was already eight months pregnant with @harleyquinnnn_ – so our lifelong journey together begins with a shotgun wedding. Nestled in the hills of Marin County, Skywalker Ranch is pastoral and huge at the same time. We'd already been sound mixing for a week when Jen said "If we ever get married one day, it should be here. It's so beautiful." 48 hours later, we were suddenly knee-deep in pulling off an elopement. We found a Dutch Catholic monk online and picked up rings in San Francisco at @tiffanyandco before meeting at the fireplace in the main house. And what I thought would simply be "Dating, Phase 2" birthed a nearly 2 decade partnership that day, solidified the moment the guy in the robes started talking about how once he says the magic words, marriage becomes so real only a court can legally end it. And I looked at the woman I barely knew standing across from me, her belly full of our kid… And suddenly, I was in awe. This was it: the start of my real life – with someone I'd only known for about a year. It was a leap of faith for both of us and 17 years later, we're still leaping. After the wedding, we held an impromptu reception at @ihop (where this photo was taken by @samosier). So to celebrate a so-far successful 17 years, today I'm taking my wife out for whatever she wants… at #iHop. I love you, Jenny. Sorry if I've ever bummed you out over the years because you've given me nothing but joy: the good has all been yours and only the mistakes have been mine. Happy Anniversary, Wife-for-Life! #KevinSmith #jenniferschwalbach
