Talk show host and author Chelsea Handler wrote candidly about having two abortions at age 16 in a Playboy essay published Monday.
Although the Livingston native, 41, has opened up about the incidents in the past, many readers criticized her for speaking so lightly about such a weighty issue, as she intimated, “I don’t ever look back and think, God, I wish I’d had that baby.”
When I agreed to write an article on a woman's right to choose, I certainly wasn't bragging. I chose to tell the truth. #shouldbemoreofit

On Tuesday, the talk show host took to Twitter to defend her intention for writing the article.
“When I agreed to write an article on a woman’s right to choose, I certainly wasn’t bragging,” she tweeted. “I chose to tell the truth. #shouldbemoreofit.”
Of course the comedian’s statement was met with mixed reviews by Internet critics who continued to criticize the Netflix star for her decisions, according to a People report.
The essay was part of the adult mag’s “Freedom Issue,” with Chelsea defending the controversial 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that gave women the right to choose.
“Once you go forward in history, you don’t go backward. That would be like the government saying, ‘Okay, we’re taking away your right to vote too.” She said. “You can’t introduce a black person and be like, ‘Oh, I just got a slave!’ That era is over.”
