The annual event is in its 62nd year and is expected to draw more boats than last year’s count of 43.

The parade’s suggested theme is the patriotic “Destination: America” and a “Collegiate Cup” will be given to the boat that best shows off their school pride. Other prize categories include Most Original, Best Decorated, Musical, Comic, Classic, Children’s (15 and under) and the two newest, Best Nonprofit/Community Organization and Best Commercial Entry.

The fireworks will start at 9 p.m., and are the first time in over 40 years they will be set off as part of the boat parade.

Five-time Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin will be the event’s grand marshal, leading a group that includes The Voice contestant Gina Castanzo, members of the Philadelphia Eagles, the cast of Ocean City Theatre Company’s The Little Mermaid, a St. Augustine Prep a cappella choir and an Elton John tribute.
