Just days after revealing she’s expecting a baby girl with husband and former NFL pro Ed Hartwell, Keshia Knight Pulliam is now opening up about his decision to file for divorce. During an Entertainment Tonight interview which aired Wednesday, the 37-year-old Newark native broke down in tears as she admits she was blindsided by him and addresses suspicion of cheating in their relationship.
The childhood star, who won the hearts of millions starring as Rudy Huxtable on The Cosby Show, entered the interview without wearing her wedding ring and ready to defend her character after it was “attacked.” The 7-month-pregnant actress says she did not commit did not cheat on her husband. In fact, Ed was the one to confess he stepped outside of their marriage, she claims.
“Early on in my marriage when I was faced with this, I was ready to leave. It’s not OK,” Keshia told ET. “In the process, I found out I was pregnant. And I had to take another hard look and decide if I wanted to try to work through this and forgive him for the sake of the child. Like, I had divorce papers ready. I presented it to him. … Once I was pregnant I did decide to give him that one last chance.”
Pregnancy is something the once happy couple was eagerly hoping for during their marriage, so for him to ask for a paternity test both shocked and hurt her. The host of Kandidly Keshia podcast wishes she paid closer attention to the man he actually showed himself to be, instead of the man she thought she married.
“I love who he pretended to be,” Keshia said. “I love who he portrayed himself as, and the one mistake I made was, when he showed me who he really was, not believing him. Not believing him the first time. When he said he wanted our marriage, he wanted our family — I believed him. That’s why I gave him this one last chance, only for him to pull the rug from under me and blindside me.”
