Tom Colicchio may be a world-renowned chef and star judge on Top Chef, but he’s a Jersey boy at heart.

“I grew up in Elizabeth,” he told OMJ at the launch of Naked Juice and Wholesome Wave’s #DrinkGoodDoGood campaign in NYC. “My brother is a well known coach in New Jersey, so I go back often.”

Though he’s eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, Tom still has his Garden State favorites. “Spirito’s was always my favorite,” he revealed. “And pizza is my favorite boardwalk food. If you go down to Atlantic City it’s a Taylor ham sandwich.”

Like the rest of us, his summers were spent at the beach. “This time of year, all you think about is the Jersey Shore,” he added. “I have a house out in Long Island now, but I always have a yearning to go back out to the Jersey Shore. I’m passionate about fishing and I was fishing in Barnegat Bay when I was three and four years old with my grandfather.”

And while he’s typically thought of as more of New Yorker now, Tom still sticks up for Jersey. “Too often people just take that Turnpike corridor and they don’t see all of the farms and stuff we have especially down south,” he defended. “It’s a great state.”
