Bandanas and headwraps: This summer’s coolest, most rockstar worthy fashion accessory

A big trend this summer has been bandanas and headwraps, which were also worn on the runway during fashion week.Getty Images

The summer heat in New Jersey can wreak havoc on your hairstyle. For many women, we battle the Garden State’s humidity by putting our hair in a pony tail and calling it a day.

Now, the answer to what to do with your hair when you’re just not feeling your everyday look is a bandana or headwrap. Bandanas are definitely this summer’s must-have fashion accessory. You can play up your Jersey girl style – whether putting up your hair in a pinup girl inspired do, tying it around your neck like a mini collar, or even wearing one on your wrist. Red seems to be the color of choice, but white, black, pink and blue are also making the rounds. But let’s face it – us Jersey girls love to have options when it comes to our closet.

Incorporating a rock n’ roll element to your look no matter what your age is a cinch thanks to the traditional, southwestern print that is versatile enough to be paired with classic pieces in your closet. A simple t-shirt and jeans combo gets a pop of color from a colorful bandana of your choice – leather jacket optional come fall. Or, rock a headwrap turban for some 70s, hippy inspiration that is boho chic. Celebrities like Khloe Kardashian, channeling some retro style in a pink bandana, and New Jersey native Ashley Tisdale, who favors a red bandana by pairing it with boho-inspired ankle boots, love the revival of the bandana. I’m sold.
