Great news, Hoboken dwellers: Trader Joe’s is coming! Okay, it’s not happening until 2017, so you’ll have to wait a little while longer, but this is still big news for food lovers. Local blogger Hoboken Girl got us excited about this delicious development:

She shared her enthusiasm on her blog back in April, writing, “We are…already dreaming about the copious amounts of $2buck chucks {fingers crossed they get a liquor license!} and pumpkin-flavored things they carry in the fall.” She also quoted Mayor Dawn Zimmer, who said at a meeting, “Trader Joe’s is one of America’s favorite grocery stores, and I look forward to welcoming them to Hoboken. My administration has worked to ensure that they can open in a way that their truck deliveries are safe for everyone, especially the seniors, families, and all residents who live nearby and walk in the neighborhood.”

According to Jersey Digs, who referenced a press release issued by the company, “The new store, located in Harlow Hoboken at the southwest corner of Willow Ave. and 14th St., plans to open in the first half of 2017. It will occupy an 11,700 square foot space in the new project.”

New Jersey eaters have been clamoring for Trader Joe’s to bestow their town with their yummy offerings. As reported in April, there were at least eight Facebook pages dedicated to getting the company to open more Garden State stores; at the time, there were 11 Trader Joe’s in Jersey, and 450 nationwide.

If you’ve never been to a Trader Joe’s, you’re in for a treat. They have basic grocery staples as well as their own brands of frozen foods and snacks at amazing prices so you can afford to indulge. My personal recommendation is their chocolate peanut butter covered pretzels, but be warned: they’re a bit addictive!

They also have items you would never expect to see, like one of their latest, vegan Bollywood Popcorn, which retails for $1.99 and “features flavors reminiscent of Indian dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala—of course, there is no chicken (or any other kind of meat) in the recipe. The air-popped corn is tossed with an exotic blend of savory-spicy seasonings, including turmeric, mustard seeds, cardamom, and garam masala.”

While Trader Joe’s doesn’t have a social media presence (yes, it’s 2016, but they seem to be doing pretty well for themselves), obsessive fans follow the popular store’s offerings and avidly detail new items (count me in for thinking spicy dill potato chips sound delicious!):

2017 can’t get here fast enough!
