Halsey and Gigi Hadid’s Chinese mesh slippers just hit the runway at NYFW

Remember when mesh beaded slippers were having a moment? Like… the ones you bought in Chinatown for $5? Well, it really must be true that history repeats itself, because Halsey and Gigi Hadid brought them back and now they’re even being shown at New York Fashion Week.

Let’s briefly review the mesh slipper’s comeback, shall we?

In the May cover shoot for VOGUE Germany, Gigi rocked a $1,545 pair of Balenciaga beaded lace slippers.

(If your white lace slipper budget is sizable enough, you can snag a pair from Barney’s.)

There’s also a similarly inspired Oscar de la Renta mule for $650 at Neiman Marcus. I’d like to argue that these are a lot more sensible, as the sole is more structured and they’re a third of the cost of the Balenciagas.

Our very own Jersey girl, Halsey, also rocked the trend. Although the 21-year-old Washington native has tons of designer clothes and shoes, I have a feeling that these orange slide-ons are pretty similar to the lime green pair I had to buy behind my mom’s back in 2004. (Which was kind of a waste of $5, because she never let me wear them to school. Bummer.)

Fashion called. You won.

Most recently, Gypsy Sport styled their models in an array of Chinese slippers for their Spring 2017 NYFW show.

No word yet on whether the Gypsy Sport collection will actually include the slippers, but you can grab a pair at your local beauty supply store for less than $3 or on Amazon for less than $7. You should probably get them in every color. You’re welcome.
