This couple is eating their way through New Jersey.

If we’ve learned anything from New Jersey celebrities like Cake Boss Buddy Valastro or the Real Housewives of New Jersey, eating is always more fun with the ones you love. That’s exactly why couple Karli Damiano from Midland Park and Mike Burn from Allendale started an entire Instagram called “The Food Couple NJ” dedicated to chowing down on some of the Garden State’s best dishes.

Their drool-worthy account showcases the best eats throughout the state from ice cream to lobster and steak. “Our inspiration for the blog was actually @foodbabyny,” Karli told OMJ. “We would constantly be looking at pictures posted of the cutest kids and the food they eat and we thought we eat out so much we should start our own and call it ‘foodcouplenj’ maybe we’ll be to meet them (still haven’t). We did it as a joke at first but it truly has taken over our life in the best way!”

Recent shots include peanut butter ice cream from Van Dyk’s Homemade Ice Cream in Ridgewood and lamb chops with fried Brussels sprouts, on top of an arugula bed, topped off with fresh goat cheese from Cravings Tapas Bistro, also in Ridgewood.

All of this traveling and exploring around the state has given the duo a unique insight into the food industry in New Jersey. “Something we’ve learned about the NJ food scene is that it’s in competition with NYC,” added Karlie. “NY has crazy restaurants and new upcoming bakeries and cafes. I think NJ is trying to up their creativity and make their food as creative as possible for more traffic in and out of the area. I mean presentation is what gets a good picture for social media.”

Since they’ve sampled top dishes from all over we had to ask which part of the state ranks the best in terms of quality food. “The part of the state with the best food in our opinion is Northern Jersey,” revealed Karlie. “Towns in the area like Ridgewood and Franklin Lakes have top of the notch ingredients with an artistic side to each course.”

I guess we’ll have to taste test for ourselves!
