To say I’m obsessed with Hello Kitty would be putting my interest in the iconic Japanese cat character mildly. I grew up going to a small store in Fort Lee that sold Sanrio merchandise, but my Hello Kitty appreciation truly blossomed as an adult, where I’ve done everything from get my hair done in a Hello Kitty bow at the Hello Kitty Hair Salon in Dubai, dine on a Hello Kitty sandwich at Hello Kitty House in Bangkok, and attend a Hello Kitty Convention in Los Angeles (where I met people who were truly obsessed, going so far as to decorate their entire homes in the familiar cat face and even fly on Eva Air in their special Hello Kitty airplanes). Yes, these really exist:
If you’re anywhere near Bergen County, I suggest you mark your calendar and make sure to head over there Saturday between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. for the truck’s pop up appearance at Grand Lux Cafe. The official event announcement promises “some supercute treats, while supplies last.” Something tells me you’ll want to get there early, because Jersey girls, like fans everywhere around the world, can’t get enough of this beloved Sanrio icon.
What kinds of treats could they mean? Well, judging from the photos they’ve posted on Facebook from past events, you’re in for the height of adorable and delicious desserts, which just might include a strawberry puff with Hello Kitty’s face stamped on it!
We don’t know the exact menu the truck will be serving, but the one from America’s first official Hello Kitty Cafe, which this food truck is a version of on wheels, sells sweet offerings like mama’s apple pie, strawberry streusel tart and chocolate opera cake, plus iced tea, lemonade, hot chocolate and other beverages.
