We all know the cast of the Jersey Shore cast was once great at partying, but it seems like they might all be terrible cooks. After Jenni “JWoww” Farley took home the top honor last season of the Worst Cook in America, former housemate Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino will now be up for the same title on Season 9.
Mike, along with eight other celebrities who can’t cook, will have to cook boot camp style under the helm of celebrity chefs Rachael Ray and Anne Burrell. The reality star explained he hopes this experience will help him get more comfortable in the kitchen. “I figured that signing up for this particular competition would help me get acclimated to the kitchen again,” he told the Food Network Blog. “Sharpen my skills, improve anything that I need to improve on and hopefully broaden my horizons for different styles of cooking, and I can cook for my family and my beautiful girlfriend.”
Obviously, his favorite dishes to cook are Italian.” I love Italian food. I really do,” said the reality TV veteran, who has also done stints on Marriage Bootcamp and his family’s show The Sorrentinos. “Obviously my go-to would be some sort of chicken cutlet, and you can make so many things from chicken cutlets: chicken Parm, chicken Marsala, so many things. So, that’s definitely a go-to for me.”
His fridge is usually stocked with soppressata and cheese (along with healthy protein drinks for the fitness buff) and he grew up eating his mom’s macaroni pie, which she always made for him on his July 4 birthday. “If I’m going to eat something for the rest of my life, it would probably be pasta, because you can make pasta in so many different ways,” he told the blog.
His girlfriend Lauren Pesce is clearly looking forward to his stint as a TV chef, posting a promo clip on her Instagram.
While watching celebs attempt to cook is certainly great entertainment, there’s also a charity component to the competition. Jenni donated her winnings to Pick Your Paw Animal Rescue and Mike is hoping to win the $50,000 and give it to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. “Kids are a big part of my motivation,” he said. “I don’t have a family just yet, eventually I will, but I’m really looking to help the kids in any way I can.”
Tune in to the premiere on Wednesday, September 14 at 9 pm to see Mike compete against the likes of Barbara Eden, Matt Dallas, Mindy Cohn, John Henson, and RHOA alum Kenya Moore.
