A love of animals runs in this New Jersey family! Ex-Daily Show host Jon Stewart and his wife, Tracey Stewart, a former veterinary technician and author of Do Unto Animals, have passed along their love of four legged creatures to their daughter, Maggie. The Stewarts, who live in Red Bank, own 12-acre Bufflehead Farm in Middletown, where they adopted the so-called “paintball pony” Lily, who was abused, and have celebrated the “rescueversary” of adorable pigs Anna and Maybelle.

Maggie Rose Stewart, 10, has joined her parents in going above and beyond for the animals in their care. In a blog post on The Daily Squeal, part of the organization Farm Sanctuary, the tween wrote that her love of animals started at the tender age of two, when the family got their first dog.

“We adopted him from The Humane Society Of New York when I was two years old! I loved Barkly ever since we adopted him. I would not leave him alone, which, looking back, may have not have been his favorite,” recalled Maggie.

Is that treats I hear!🐾🍽

She went on to detail her new obsession: photographing the animals. “I love being woken up in the morning with a new call about a goat on the highway or a cow that is loose in Brooklyn! I also love going outside and seeing Anna and Maybelle or any of the other animals! I recently got (stole from my brother) a camera. Which sparked a passion for photography which has really come in handy for the Squeal. I love taking pictures of them and the other animals at home.”

Maggie has channeled her enjoyment of both animals and being behind the camera into a new Instagram account, The Lil Squeal, a companion to The Daily Squeal one, where she’s showcasing why these beloved creatures are so special to her. She’s documented everything from pig belly rubs to goats “chatting” with one another, and an animal friendly visit to the Jersey City Police Department. She’s even captured herself reading to the farm animals as part of National Literacy Month (September)! It’s no surprise that she’s having fun with the form, given that her parents had the animals “training” for the Olympics this summer. It’s incredibly sweet to see Maggie not only following in her caring mom and dad’s footsteps, but putting her own spin on the farm’s important work.

They gave into the power of the belly rub!
