It has been quite a rough year for former Real Housewives of New Jersey star Amber Marchese. The mom of four announced in June that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. On top of that she was fighting breast cancer for a second time. After surviving breast cancer in 2009, she discovered a lump in April 2015, which turned out to be cancerous. But while chatting with her and husband Jim Marchese in their beautiful Colts Neck home, the couple had some great news to share about Amber’s health.
The Marriage Boot Camp stars told OMJ exclusively that Amber is now Lyme disease free (because she was able to discover it early), and she also has finished chemotherapy. Jim broke the amazing news to us, saying “She’s no longer on chemotherapy. And the Lyme disease, and I’m not putting down Lyme disease, but it was like child’s play compared to cancer. 20 days of antibiotics and it knocked it out.”
Amber tells us she went though radiation this time last year, and had a second mastectomy, which was again tough. She will be undergoing tests this month to see if she is officially cancer free, but she has a very good feeling about it. She tells us, “My oncologist is like, ‘Amber, you know what. We treated you aggressively again, I think you’re good to go.'”
The 39-year-old believes living a healthy lifestyle by eating nutritious foods and working out (she likes weight lifting and hot yoga) have contributed to her recovery. She also feels that laughter, having fun, and those human connections with her family and friends have helped her heal.
“I feel the healthiest ever, and I just have a very positive attitude,” she tells us. “It’s just something I deal with, and I still get up in the morning with a big, bright smile on my face, and get on with my day. It’s a formality.”
In addition to putting her toe back into reality TV, Amber is putting her master’s degree in exercise physiology from Columbia University to good use, by starting a new career as a motivational speaker.
She tells us,”I speak about my experience sometimes in front of patients, sometimes in front of oncologists, physicians, pharmaceutical companies. My audience is wide. Sometimes from 50 people all the way up to 500 people.”
Me, doing my thing. Loved speaking at @summitmedicalnj lecture on "women at risk for breast cancer: the role of genetics".
