It’s new beginnings for Amber and Jim Marchese. The former Real Housewives of New Jersey stars are moving on to a new reality show. We’ll be seeing the parents-of-four strengthening their bond on Season 6 of WE tv’s Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars. I sat down the couple at their beautiful home in Colts Neck to chat about the new show, their marriage, and their thoughts on the Season 7 of RHONJ.
Jim and Amber jokingly have different views on the day they received the call to join Marriage Boot Camp. Jim tells me. “We get a call and we have an opportunity for me to be alone with my wife, two weeks, no children, and I’m like I’ve gotta do this.”
Meanwhile the breast cancer survivor has a different version. Amber says, “I get that call, and I’m like wait, I’m going to have to leave my children for how long?”
The couple, married for 10 years now, first treated the show as just another job, but they quickly discovered during those 2 and half weeks of filming that it was going to have a huge impact on their relationship.
“I found out more things about myself that I had never knew was a hang up on me, and it strengthened our marriage more than I could ever imagine,” Amber tells me. “One of the reasons we did go on, is yes we have been married for 10 years, so how do we make it lively for anther 10, and that’s what it is. It’s always reworking the marriage, and I was not looking at it as a reality show to be able to do that, and it did that and then some.”
Jim, 47, adds, “I can honestly say we went in and we learned something despite ourselves. We had a lot of fun, and they were incredibly professional which made it easy.”
Jim and Amber, who dated for just only a month before becoming engaged, tell me they treated their time away in California shooting Marriage Boot Camp as their honeymoon because they never went on one. Amber, who is awaiting test results to see if she had knocked out breast cancer for the second time, says they moved very quickly after getting married and went right into having a family.
“We got married at Universal Studios. When I met him I inherited two beautiful boys through marriage, and I said I don’t want a boring, staunchly wedding where my brand new step-boys are going to be bored to death. So we went on the Spiderman ride and then we got married.”
The 39-year-old mother tells me they met through Jim’s parents and it was truly love at first sight.
“I would hear all about him and I didn’t think anything of it, until one day I came over their house to have a martini, and I walked upstairs, and I saw a picture of him and his boys, and I was like that’s my husband,” Amber tells OMJ. “After three years of hearing about him and seeing his picture, there he was on the back porch with his parents.”
There’s no looking back for Jim and Amber. The two have completely moved on from their one season role on RHONJ, so much so that they haven’t watch a single episode of Season 7.
Well, maybe not completely. Amber tells me she feels a little bitter towards the show still, “I just felt like I had so many people working against me, and I didn’t get a fair shake on there. It’s upsetting because when you get to that level, and it’s like I finally made it, and you’re bumped off for really stupid reasons.”
Amber and Jim are also feel they did not receive an accurate portrayal during Season 6, with Jim being cast as the villain, and Amber as overly emotional.
“I’m a little upset with how they portrayed him, how they portrayed me. It wasn’t me. I didn’t get a chance to be me on that show, and I don’t cry. I don’t ever cry, but I was crying apparently all the time on the freakin’ show,” Amber tells us. “And a lot of people get the second season to redeem themselves after a really bad season, and I didn’t have that opportunity because this one over here (Jim) was not letting that happen.”
You can catch Amber and Jim on the new season of Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars when it premieres October 7th on WE tv.
