Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, 16, of Old Bridge is living her best life. Since wowing at the Rio Summer Olympics, where she won a silver medal for her balance beam work and was part of the gold medal winning Final Five American gymnastics team, she’s thrown an amazing Mets game first pitch and sparked an enrollment boom at Monmouth Gymnastics. But this weekend might have been the most fun of all for the New Jersey teenager: her enthusiasm was on full display when she recently met pop star Tori Kelly on Saturday night. Their big moment happened backstage during the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions, where Laurie is joining her fellow Olympians Simone Biles and Aly Raisman, at their stop at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The Dancing with the Stars contestant could barely stand it when she was introduced to Tori backstage, backing away initially because she was so overwhelmed by emotion.
Could her smile possibly be an bigger as she gives her musical idol a hug?

It was a mutual love fest, with the two complimenting each other and clearly emotional over their meeting.
Tori called Laurie a “sweet soul” on social media, writing that she’s “so glad we finally got to meet!”
