Orange is the New Black Star Jason Biggs revealed this week that he’s battling mental health issues.

The 38-year-old Pompton Plains native, who rose to fame in the 1999 raunchy romantic comedy American Pie, made a major announcement on Monday for World Mental Health Day when he posted a picture of a prescription bottle to his social media to raise awareness and let know people who are struggling with depression and other mental health issues that they aren’t alone in the fight.

“Happy #worldmentalhealthday. There’s help if you need it. #noshame,” he tweeted to his 520,000 followers.

The tweet included a link to an Instagram post which showed a prescription bottle of Bupropion, an antidepressant medication often used to treat depression and season affective disorder. Although the married father of one (his wife is fellow actor Jenny Mollen) hasn’t spoken publicly about his mental health issues, he decided to share his struggles with the world. In a hashtag he said this isn’t the only medication he is on.

Many of his 360,000 Instagram followers commented positively on the post.

“You’re awesome for sharing that,” wrote one fan. “So many people out there are afraid to get help because they are too afraid of what other people will think. It helps to see that there are others out there who need help too.”

“Thanks for normalizing mental health!” wrote another.

One of his Twitter followers tweeted: “That’s awesome. I’ve always hated being dependant on meds to survive, but these kinds of things help me feel better about it. ❤”

Other Hollywood stars like Halsey, Brooke Shields, Justin Bieber, Halle Berry, J.K. Rowling, Jon Hamm, Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow, Brad Pitt, Ellen DeGeneres and more have spoken out about their struggles with depression, anxiety and more.
