Neiman Marcus in Paramus hosted a fabulous Carmen Marc Valvo fashion show for the women of The Valley Hospital Foundation on Wednesday. Carmen was on hand for the annual fundraising event at Garden State Plaza , which supports The Valley Hospital and Valley Home Care, to chat with the ladies and show off his fall collection. Carmen tells me this season was a throwback to the 60’s.
“It was a little bit of a cat and mouse, a little bit of a nod to Audrey Hepburn, with sheath dresses in a little classic style,” he says. “We did some wedge shapes, we did little, shorter silhouettes. It was the period from 1958 to 1962 where there were still party dresses but things were getting a little more stream-lined, a little sexier.”
Carmen tells me he dresses for the woman who is aware of the trends, but is not a slave to fashion. “She knows what looks good on her and she knows what she likes,” he says. “She’s a classicist at heart, she believes in feminism, and a little bit of sensuality in what she wears. And is not afraid to take a risk or two and try something new.”
The designer has been a long-time supporter of the foundation, and this is his second year attending the event. He tells me, “This group is fabulous. They just embrace the community. They give back. They are helping with enormous fundraising for the hospital, and they are just a great group.”
And the New Yorker loves when he has a chance to come to New Jersey “I’m still a Westchester County boy,” he tells me. “I come here and I feel like it’s almost like going home, it’s so beautiful.”
