The fashion world would be nothing without those unique individuals who love to push boundaries and march to the beat of their own style drum. On Thursday, Fashion Group International hosted their 2016 Night of Stars at Cipriani Downtown in New York City, celebrating the non-conformists in the business, including supermodel Pat Cleveland. The New Jersey resident walked away with the Fashion Provocateur Award, bringing her bubbly energy and laughter along with her.

After hanging out with the 66-year-old fashion muse at the dinner table and watching her twirl on the red carpet in a beautiful teal vintage chiffon dress by Stephen Burrows, it was clear to see why her name is held with such prestige. She brings an energy like no other, forcing a smile out of anyone without even saying a word.

Although she was a little nervous, Pat revealed she did not come prepared with a speech. She’s a free-spirit, who loves to go with the flow and delivering words from the heart just felt more organic. She was right! Her humorous speech was mirrored with huge smiles and applause by the sea of people in the audience.

“I love clothes! They’ve been the wonderful thing that took me across the world,” Pat told the incredibly well-dressed crowd that included singer Nicki Minaj, designer Tommy Hilfiger, The Affair actress Ruth Wilson and model Hailey Baldwin. “Without fashion, no peacock would ever be jealous. I love you because you’ve given me stories that I’ll remember till I’m 102-years-old (I hope I make it). As much as fashion goes on, we need it, because it gets us out of the house.”

Long-time designer collaborator and friend Stephen Burrows presented Anna Cleveland‘s mom with the award alongside Essence’s former Editor-in-Chief Constance White. Stephen, who just so happens to be a Newark native, couldn’t help but get emotional when speaking about his special relationship with the woman who broke so many barriers as an interracial runway and print model.

“I met Pat 46 years ago when I was opening my boutique at Henri Bendel’s in 1970 and she came to me as a mistake, ultimately becoming life long friends,” Stephen said before they embraced in awe-worthy hug. “She has been an inspiration to me through me own years of designing. She is the one who brought me my ‘every woman’ and she became a symbol to me for that. I love her dearly.”
