Before the Real Housewives of New Jersey ladies had personal stylists to assist them with their fashion choices, Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga relied on their style icons and seasonal trends to pick their outfits. If there’s one thing Jersey girls do right, it’s fashion, but we’ve all had looks or phases from our past that give us chills. In a recent interview with Paper Magazine, the sisters-in-law dish on their most memorable fashion faux pas moments, celebrity inspirations and more!

Despite the drama and fights, there’s one thing the Bravo reality stars can agree on: the importance of fashion. Teresa, who ALMOST won ‘best dressed’ in high school, has had a serious passion for clothing and accessories for as long as she can remember. The married mother-of-four loved it so much, she decided to study fashion merchandising at Berkeley College and later became a professional buyer for Macy’s.

“My friends and I used to go into the city to dance at Limelight,” Teresa told Paper. “They used to pick you out of the line based on how you looked, what you were wearing. So my girlfriends and I — it’d be like a challenge. Wearing the coolest thing to make us stand out. I kind of approached every day dressing like that.”

Whether we’re watching them on the small screen or scrolling through their Instagrams, we can’t seem to get enough of their style. It’s hard to imagine them looking anything but fabulous, but they seem to remember otherwise. The hairstyle that haunts Teresa landed on a “Free Tre” shirt, while the Envy store owner only wants her hair memory to live on through pictures.

“Some of my hairstyles I could have done without,” Melissa told Paper. “I had bangs — very high bangs that I hairsprayed with Aqua Net. It was very stiff, and it had to curl up and over, or I wouldn’t leave the house. I look at pictures now, and I’m like, ‘Why didn’t anyone chain me to the bed? Like, You’re not allowed out like that!'”

When it comes to style inspiration, Teresa’s go-to girl is Cher. Can you blame her? She’s also a huge fan of Millburn native Rachel Zoe and actress Blake Lively. Melissa, who’s children have strutted their stuff several times at New York Fashion Week, looks to Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lopez whenever she needs idea on her next slay.

If you want to get your hands on some of their most famous looks, we’ve got you covered. Steal Melissa’s Watch What Happens Live dress from Nordstrom Rack or visit one of Teresa’s favorite boutiques.
