Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg is known for lengthy Hollywood resume, exercising her talents on the big screen, television, as well as, Broadway. Starting Tuesday, the West Orange resident can officially add clothing designer to her list as she debuts a new line of ugly Christmas and holiday sweaters exclusively for Lord & Taylor.
These garments arrived just in time for the holidays. Whether you’ll be attending endless ugly sweater parties or just looking to stay warm this winter, The View co-host has you covered (literally). Her capsule collection will feature eight sweaters made of mixtures of wool, alpaca, cashmere and cotton, all priced at $139.
Despite being associated with Christmas, each sweater celebrates the differences we share in this country, like religion and race. Customers will find everything from an octopus wearing a yarmulke to happily blended families on these brightly colored pieces of clothing. So there’s something for everyone.
A longtime lover of seasonal sweaters, Whoopi knows the perfect way to style these sweaters. The Marilyn Monroe Mana Contemporary exhibit curator wants you to use the sweater as a statement piece and keep everything else simple.
“Wear some black leggings and a crazy sweater,” Whoopi told New York Times. “Men don’t wear leggings, so for them, jeans or something relatively simple, because it’s the sweater that you want people to see.”
When it comes to creativity, The Color Purple star looks to fashion designer Jeremy Scott for constant inspiration. From his eccentricity to his ability to work with such diverse clientele, Whoopi can’t get enough. The multi-Emmy Award winner also wouldn’t mind working one-on-one with queen of slay, Rihanna.
So what’s next for Whoopi? She revealed her passion for design goes way beyond clothing. Although admitting her taste might be a little crazy, she knows the pieces would definitely catch people’s attention.
“I’d love to design holiday footwear,” said Whoopi, who is known for her shoe collection. “I’d love to design housewares. If you’re going to have things in the house, you might as well not be bored by them.
Stop by the Lord & Taylor at Garden State Plaza in Paramus starting November 1 to be one of the first customers to get their hands on these sweaters. For those unable to make it to the mall, you can purchase them online beginning November 9. To celebrate the launch, Whoopi will also visit Lord & Taylor on Fifth Avenue in New York City on November 15 to unveil the special window dedicated to her collection.
