Josephine’s Garden, a foundation at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center, held its Fall Luncheon Wednesday at Season’s Catering in Washington Township. Kristine Deer, founder of athleisure brand K-Deer was the honoree while Mary Capaci, MD, CA and Cara Galorenzo, LAC, MSTOM of the Valley Acupuncture and Wellness Center were speakers.

Josephine’s Garden is a rooftop space at HackensackUMC where over 10,000 pediatric patients a year can enjoy a climbing boulder, wishing fountain, warrior pole, chalk board and artwork. The concept was created by Josephine Rispoli, a 6-year-old girl who lost a year-long fight to an extremely rare brain tumor in 2011. During her hospitalizations, Josephine hoped to spend time playing outdoors. In July 2012, the Rispoli family and friends unveiled the Garden.
