New Jersey is known for its good food whether it’s boardwalk snacks or high-priced meals. But, did you know that two Garden State restaurants are some of the most popular in the country? Trade magazine Restaurant Business released a list of the top 100 highest-grossing independent restaurants (meaning the establishment could not have more than five locations) in the U.S. and a couple of south Jersey eateries made the list.

To come up with the list, the magazine looked at the gross 2015 food and beverage sales stating, “Information was gathered through surveys. When data wasn’t provided, sales were estimated based on public information, similar concepts and other factors.”

While Tao’s Asian Bistro in Las Vegas, Nevada, came in at number one (making $47,941,106 last year), just down the list at number 70 was The Lobster House in Cape May bringing in $14.7 million. The harbor front seafood restaurant served 306,000 meals last year with the average check size costing $37.

Patrons have described the crab cakes as the best they’ve ever had and that everything from their lobster and oysters to their cheesecake is worth a trip. They have their own boats that go out for the freshest tasting seafood around and to top it off you can score a dockside seat complete with water views of Cape May Harbor.

Summer isn't over yet!

Twelve spots down the list is nearby restaurant Carmine’s in Atlantic City, which brought in just over $13.8 million last year, serving 101,866 meals at an average cost of $32. The Italian restaurant is famous for its large family style portions and evokes a sense of comfort from grandma’s house. The oversized meatballs and ravioli are some of the classics that have made this spot super popular.

Carmine’s Times Square location in New York City came in at number four on the list with $32,015,788 in sales. In fact, New York City is the most popular city overall with 30 of the top 100 restaurants located there. TAO downtown, a favorite of Teresa Guidice’s came in at number three and favorite spots of many Garden Staters like Lavo and Smith & Wollensky rounded out the top 10.

At Tao with my girls @dorothytoran & @jcarolineself love them ❤️
