Camp Acorn hosted their 2nd Annual Ladies Shopping Fundraiser Wednesday at the beautiful Bishop House in Saddle River. Guests were invited to shop 5 fabulous vendors featuring designer inspired costume jewelry from Traveling Jewelry Creations and delicious chocolate treats from Red Ribbon Pretzel Company. They all are donating a generous portion of their sales to benefit the non-profit organization’s year-round enrichment program for children and adults with special needs. Camp Acorn, which was founded in September 2001 in Allendale, serves over 120 families each year, from children as young as 5 to adults in their early 50’s.
Communications and Development Coordinator Thaddeus Orlowski, who tells me they are “more than an organization, we are a family,” says they run programs year-round from a Funky Fridays dance party to Super Saturdays where they hold cooking classes and sport activities. “We really take pride in being a high quality program at a low cost for families and giving a quality experience for our campers and good service for the families.” Their programs help campers build self-esteem, confidence, and life skills that branch into all aspects of their lives.
