Frank Sinatra was the ultimate crooner of his day and frequented many famous bars, but only had one drink of choice: Jack Daniels. It all started when the Hoboken native was at a bar with entertainer Jackie Gleason during the golden age of cocktails. It was a night for serious whiskey thought Sinatra, and that’s when Jackie turned to Sinatra and said, “Have you ever tried Jack Daniel’s?” After the first sip he was hooked.
There was always a stash of Sinatra’s favorite libation in the hold on his private plane, kept his personal stock secreted away at home and always had a bottle and a chilled glass, covered with a white linen cloth waiting for him off stage. And there was even a bottle brought to his final resting place.
Now, you can have a cocktail like the singer himself as the Jack Daniel Distillery recently released Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Century, the brand’s latest collaboration with the Sinatra family to celebrate The Chairman of the Board’s Centennial. Like all of Jack Daniel’s expressions, Sinatra Century is crafted using the same cave spring water from the Jack Daniel’s Hollow, proprietary yeast and charcoal-mellowing process that’s been used in the distillery’s nearly 150-year-old Tennessee Whiskey recipe.
From there, the whiskey enters specially selected “Sinatra” barrels hand-picked by Master Distiller Jeff Arnett. In those barrels, the liquid is exposed to extra layers of perfectly toasted oak through a grooving process only done at the Jack Daniel’s Cooperage. This allows the ultra-premium whiskey to achieve a pleasantly smoky and rich oak aroma that Sinatra was known to adore.
Commenting on Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Century, Frank Sinatra Jr. explains, “Sinatra Century is a fitting tribute to Dad and the perfect way to mark his centenary in December. Jack Daniel’s was Dad’s drink of choice, whether entertaining friends, or making new acquaintances. Therefore, it only seems right that we raise a toast of Sinatra Century to the musical legend as we celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday this year.”
And if you really want to be like Frank, follow his favorite recipe.
Frank’s Way (How Sinatra took his Jack Daniel’s):
- Two fingers of Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7
- 3 cubes
- Splash of water
In celebration of Frank Sinatra’s 101st birthday on December 12, fans of Ol’ Blue Eyes can hop a flight from Newark to Las Vegas and step inside Bar Prohibition! at hotel Golden Gate. This historic hotel and casino is serving up “Frankie Two Fingers” in a setting reminiscent of the Rat Pack era.
